There really isn't much you can do in the park unless you drive a 4X4, camp
in the park and hike a lot. The scenic road certainly offers magnificent
views but driving along it is probably what most park visitors can do.
The park happens to be in between Zion/Bryce and Arches/Canyonlands. People
like us just go through the park and spend some extra 2 hours to visit the
scenic road. The investment is very small yet the reward is very high.
Spending a long time in the park is totally a different story. It is not for
casual park-goers. You need the right equipments, experience and
considerable preparation.
When accident happens, there might be nobody around and you have to be on your
own.
There are one or two motels nearby the park but I don't remember seen
anything looked like a town. I guess that it makes more sense for over-nighters
to camp or stay in their own RVs.
