Capitol Reef National Park
(Click for enlarged view 71K)
Capitol Reef was on our way to Moab (for another
two National Parks). Although the park area is huge, only a small portion
is accessible by Rt 24 and a short scenic drive. The land was too huge that the
density of population was small. Unlike other parks, we didn't see many visitors
around.
We saw huge rocks everywhere, some even looked
like castles. It's interesting: every National Park here has rock, yet they are
all looked different.
The white round cap-like rock is the reason why
the park got the name "Capitol".
A glance from the scenic drive. Most of the
road was well-paved. It was not for heavy traffic (which the park didn't
see). Some branch routes were not paved. Although we did see some normal
two-wheel-drive cars came out (apparently survived the road condition),
we did not risk to enter.
That afternoon's weather was interesting. Half
of the sky was clear and blue with white clouds. The other half was shadowed
as if hunderstorm was coming.
We came in a hurry and left in a hurry. Lack of time was one reason. The other
reason was that we just didn't know how to explore the park by car. This is
not a fully-developed park. If you want to see some new things, you probably
have to rely on your feet.
