The next morning (7/4/2004) we got up early for sunrise at Yavapai Point which was only three minutes away. We were still in jet-lag so it was not too painful to get up this early.

Yapavai is one of the most popular view points for sunrise. It certainly deserves its reputation.

This picture was taken at Yavapai Point about an hour after sunrise. The canyon looked very colorful at this time of the day.

After checked out we headed east to Desert View Drive. It meanders about 25 miles from the village to Desert View. We made stops at most of the view points on the way. In fact, the drive along the rim offers equally fantastic view. However, the view points make it easier for parking and referring to the places you took the pictures.

Watchtower  Desert View is the easternmost overlook on the south rim. The distinctive 70 foot high watchtower offers breathtaking overlook view of the canyon.

That was all for the South Rim. What waited for us was a long drive from here to the North Rim. Rt-64 east of the National Park entrance was also beautiful with a lot of view points. However, the only thing we had in mind was getting to North Rim in early afternoon. I was so narrow-minded that I didn't spare any moment for "lesser" Canyon views..
