Activity Suggestion
For casual travelers the "Island in the Sky" section is probably the only place you can be. The park road is well paved but very winding. You will need to spend about 2 to 3 hours to complete this area by car for casual sight-seeing. For those who drive a 4X4 the options are much wider. A lot of park roads are 4X4 only. In fact, that is the only way to reach Maze section.

For those who just want the "been there" experience, allocate half a day for Island section. For those who are well prepared, please contact National Park in advance for advises on Needles and Maze sections.

Island section is near Arches and Moab but it really takes a while to reach due to the winding mountain road. Nearby Dead Horse Point state park is also a great place (which we didn't have chance to visit) and is said to have the most beautiful sunset in the area. Consider to combine these parks in a package and stay a couple days in Moab.
